For nearly half a
century, the Northeast Oratorio Society has presented the great
works of the choral literature in the Greater Philadelphia area.
The Society presents concerts of major choral masterpieces in
the late fall and early spring, with six to eight performances
per season.
In the past ten
seasons NEOS has presented multiple performances of an
impressive list of works including the Bach St. John Passion,
B Minor Mass, Handel’s Judas Maccabeaus, Haydn’s
Creation and Lord Nelson Mass, Mozart Requiem
and Coronation Mass and works by Bruckner, Buxtehude,
Faure, and Schubert. It presents semi-annual performances of
Messiah, performing it complete and uncut every fourth year.
The Society frequently
explores the operatic repertoire. It has presented concert
performances of
Verdi’s Nabucco
and La Traviata, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Gluck’s
Orfeo and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.
All performances are
presented with full orchestra. The Chestnut Hill Orchestra and
the Pennypack Chamber Orchestra regularly provide the
accompaniment. In recent seasons NEOS has combined with the
Bucks County Choir to present large-scale works. The Society
members also perform regularly with churches and organizations.
In addition to
attracting some of the best soloist in the region members of the
Society are frequently called on the sing as principals
