Now in its 45th
season, the Chestnut Hill Orchestra presents free concerts of great music
throughout the Philadelphia area. The group rehearses on Sunday evenings
from 7:45 to 10 pm at St. Paul’s Reformed Episcopal Church in Springfield
Township Montgomery County. It presents as many as 12 performances at
various venues throughout the Philadelphia area. Past achievements of the
Orchestra include performances of all the Beethoven Symphonies, a complete
cycle of the Haydn London Symphonies and the major works of Mozart, Schubert
and Dvorak. The orchestra regularly celebrates Mozart’s birthday with a
special concert and party in late January.

In addition to regular
symphonic repertoire, the Orchestra plays performances of complete operas
and oratorios in concert in conjunction with the Northeast Oratorio Society
and the Bucks County Choir. Past opera repertoire includes all the major
Mozart operas, Fidelio, The Barber of Seville, Don Pasquale, Rigoletto
and La Traviata. They have also presented complete performances
of Haydn’s Creation, Mendelssohn’s Elija, Handel’s Judas
Maccabeaus and semi annual performances of Messiah as well as
choral works of Mozart, Schubert and Vivaldi.

Martin Knoblauch has served as the orchestras’s Music Director since 1986.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Orchestra Musicians interested in playing with the orchestra are invited to
contact the Music Director. String players are always needed but there are also
opportunities in the woodwind (particularly oboe) brass and percussion sections.
